Community Organizing Program (COP)

CO_ProgramGALANG believes that grassroots community organizing is a vital strategy in protecting LGBTs in the Philippines.  Our organizing efforts are geared towards the establishment of strong and empowered communities of LGBTs to combat discrimination based on sex, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation.  We are currently working with LGBTs in two urban poor communities in Quezon City.  We have opted to start small but dream big as we are actively developing a viable CO model for community-based LGBTs which can be replicated elsewhere in  the country.

Capacity Building Program (CBP)

CB_ProgramGALANG believes in promoting participatory learning and popularized education.  We develop the capacities of our members and volunteers, as well as local leaders among community-based LGBTs, to facilitate the formation of a strong and empowered LGBT sector in the Philippines.  We conduct discussions, trainings, and for a to strengthen our capacity to improve the lives of our stakeholders.  We sponsor trainings for community-based LGBTs on topics such as leadership, sexuality, community organizing, and human rights.  GALANG encourages its members, volunteers, and community leaders to attend conferences, trainings, and seminars that are relevant to GALANG’s work by providing moral and financial support for this purpose.  To maximize these opportunities, we also organize echo sessions that allow our members, volunteers, and local leaders, as well as other fellow LGBT advocates, to share and learn from each other’s experiences and insights gathered from trainings and conferences both in the country and abroad.

Consolidation and Networking Program (CANP)

jedGALANG believes that there is strength in numbers.  We work to consolidate the LGBT sector as a mobilizable force to influence policy change in advancing the human rights agenda of the sector, as enshrined in international human rights documents such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and The Yogyakarta Principles.  While our work is primarily with community-based LGBTs in the Philippines, GALANG’s strategies are fueled by the struggle of the larger LGBT sector in the country and that of sexual minorities all over the world.  GALANG maintains links and networks with other LGBT and LGBT-allied groups, and supports local, national, regional, and international campaigns that advance the rights of LGBTs.

Policy Research, Advocacy, and Documentation Program (PRADP)

PC060228GALANG believes in the union between theory and praxis.  We conduct research on issues that are relevant to community-based LGBTs and document our interventions in order to gather insights from the field and develop theories from grassroots LGBT organizing.  We are also building up our collection of books, articles, and other print, online, and audio-visual materials on similar subject areas.

Institutional Development and Sustainability Program (IDSP)

P3162610GALANG believes in the importance of professionalizing development work, especially among advocates working in the area of LGBT rights.  We strengthen the capacity of GALANG as a service organization to effectively assist the local communities in their struggle.  To this end, we invest in staff development; skills   enhancement; establishment of effective organizational systems; development of an organizational structure that reflects participatory and consultative processes within the organization; and generation of resources to ensure program implementation.
